Roam Videographer
Film people in your city and capture how they really speak — helping shape a new way to learn languages.
Roam is a language immersion app built around short videos of people sharing their stories, opinions and moments from their lives. Learners watch authentic speech from people across different cities.
You’ll be creating content that’s engaging and watchable in its native language — not traditional language-learning material.
The role
You’ll be responsible for filming a set of short videos with people in your city:
Film ~5 people (people you know or find locally)
Capture 6–8 short clips per person (typically 35–60 seconds each)
Deliver ~35 clips in total
Find and organise participants yourself
Plan and carry out the filming independently
What to film
Each clip should feel like a short, documentary-style moment of someone speaking naturally to camera.
The videos should capture how people actually speak — unscripted, conversational, and personal.
For each participant, the clips can revolve around the same theme or be more varied, both are fine. What matters is that each video works as a standalone moment, understandable without the others.
Avoid formal interviews or rigid question-and-answer formats. Instead, guide people to speak naturally and expand on what they’re saying.
Once you start, you’ll receive a detailed guide with examples and more direction on how to approach filming.
Who you’ll film
You can film:
People you already know
Friends of friends
People you meet locally who are interesting or have something to say
We’re looking for a range of people — different ages, backgrounds, personalities and ways of speaking.
Requirements
An eye for composition and visual storytelling
Ability to recognise and draw out a good moment or story from a conversation
Self-motivated and comfortable working independently
Camera capable of shooting in log format (for colour grading flexibility). We shoot a mix of horizontal and vertical content, so 4K is recommended to give you flexibility when cropping between formats.
