Overview

Roam (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights when you use the Roam mobile application — a language immersion platform for learning French.

Information We Collect

Account and Profile Information

When you create a Roam account, we collect:

• Your name and email address
• Your password (stored securely via Supabase Auth — we never see your plaintext password)
• Your date of birth
• Your preferred display language
• Your personalised app icon selection (hat and colour)

Usage and Learning Data

As you use Roam, we collect data to power your learning experience:

• Watch history — which episodes and videos you have watched, and when
• Saved vocabulary — caption chunks you save while watching videos, including the French text, English translation, and associated lemma
• Vocabulary review state — your FSRS spaced-repetition scheduling data per lemma, used to surface due review cards
• Daily Roam results — your completion records for Daily Roam, including your guessed and actual location coordinates, used to build your personal map of pins

Device and App Data

• Push notification token — collected when you grant notification permission, synced to our servers to deliver Daily Roam reminders
• App appearance preference — your light/dark/system theme choice, stored locally on your device

Analytics

We use PostHog to collect anonymised usage analytics. This helps us understand how the app is used and improve the experience. Events tracked include actions such as saving a vocabulary chunk. Analytics data is linked to your user identity within PostHog. You can review PostHog’s privacy practices at posthog.com/privacy.

How We Use Your Information

We use the data we collect to:

• Create and manage your account
• Personalise your app experience (avatar, appearance, language preference)
• Track your learning progress and generate your review queue
• Power the Daily Roam game and maintain your Days Roamed history
• Send you push notifications (if you have opted in)
• Send you product updates, announcements, and marketing emails about new features (you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any marketing email)
• Improve and develop the Roam app through aggregated analytics

Third-Party Services

Roam relies on the following third-party services to operate:

• Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Your profile, learning data, and auth credentials are stored on Supabase’s infrastructure. See supabase.com/privacy.
• Cloudflare Stream — used to deliver video content. Cloudflare may process network-level data when you stream videos. See cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
• Cloudflare R2 — used to serve images and static assets.
• PostHog — used for product analytics, as described above.

We do not sell your data to any third party.

Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data from our systems, subject to any legal obligations to retain certain records.

Children’s Privacy

Roam is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us so we can delete it promptly.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@roamlang.com.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted at this URL with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
